Alphonsus Grohman

Alphonsus (Al) Franklin Grohman passed away on February 16, 2014. Al was born May 19, 1938 in San Antonio, TX to Frank and Hattie (Seidel) Grohman.

Al proudly served in the U.S. Navy in the Phillipines from 1957 to 1958 as well as time with the Navy reserve. Al was a tile setter and homebuilder leaving his handiwork throughout Texas and California. A few of the sites he worked include the UT dorms, Dobie Mall and the Johnson library. He contracted and built numerous homes in the Georgetown area.

He retired in Bastrop where he enjoyed working on his land with his feral cat, French Fry. He entertained his grandchildren with fishing and learning about the outdoors.

Al is survived by his five children: James, Thomas (Marilyn), Carole (Abraham Salamah), Don (Marianne), Cheryl (Peter van den Pol), and was preceded in death by his third son Alphonsus, Jr. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Whitney, Dillon, Brian, Annie, Natalie, Danny and Sara. Al is also survived by six of his twelve siblings: his brothers Bill, Tommy, Marvin and Leroy and his sisters Eleanor and Patricia.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at All Faiths of the Pines located in Smithville, TX. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, String Prairie, TX. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, February 19, 2014, 10:30 AM, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, String Prairie, TX. Interment will follow at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
