On May 5, 2019, God said you have finished your journey here on Earth. Arthur Lorenzo Gilbert also known as "Uncle Keith" was born August 11, 1922 to the proud parents of Hardy and Little Gilbert in Garfield, TX. He was the only boy of his parents 6 children.
1942-1945, Arthur served in the US Army; as a member of the 212 company 4th division. He ended his army career receiving an Honorable Discharge.
After leaving the army, Arthur worked at Capital Chevrolet as a truck driver and at the LBJ Library. Later he retired in 1984 from the US Postal Office. He earned a 20 year service award for his hard work and dedication.
Mr. Gilbert was well known for his Pool and Domino skills; but his biggest joys were gardening, BBQ'ing, fishing and bingo. Every fishing season you could count on him being somewhere by the lake. When he returned home he would share his catch because he didn't eat fish.
Arthur had 2 children - Debbie and Arthur L. Gilbert Jr. from a previous marriage. In 1969 he met Joyce Ray and later married her having 2 sons- Hardy Gilbert and Albert Gilbert.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hardy and Lillie Gilbert; wife, Joyce Gilbert; son Albert Gilbert; sisters Ida Mae Powell, Janie Alexander, Helen Wilson, Varee Miller and Elizabeth Caldwell.
He leaves to cherish his memories: 5 children - Hardy Gilbert (Austin), Yvonne B. Wiggins (Pflugerville), Douglas Pender (Austin), Arthur L Gilbert Jr. and Debbie Gilbert (San Antonio). 2 grandchildren Chrissie Bryant, Anthony Gilbert, great-grandson - Kristofer Sneed and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
