Barbara Salas

Barbara Garcia Salas, 85, of Smithville, TX passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from complications due to congestive heart failure. She was born March 26, 1929 to Agustina and Lalo Garcia in Smithville, close to "Rocky Hill." They later lived on the family farm in Upton, TX. As a young woman, she met Lucas Salas, the son of Ignacia and Marcos Salas, Sr., from El campo, TX at a dance in Smithville. Barbara and Lucas were married January 14, 1951. Except for short periods of residing in El Campo, Brownwood and Goldthwaite, they lived their entire married life in the Smithville area. They had three children; John Salas, Tommie Ann Salas Rains and Lucas Salas, Jr. Barbara and Lucas were married almost 60 years at the time of Lucas' death on November 30, 2010. Now, at last, they are together again!
Barbara is survived by her children; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Salas and Son-n-law, Matt Rains. Grandchildren; Olivia Salas, Brandi Rains Jalbert (husband, Mark), Stephen Salas (wife, Hollie), Amanda Rains, Laura Salas Garza (husband, Alex) and Leanne Salas: She has five Great-Grandchildren; Lilly Lara, Sienna Salas, Adam Jalbert, Luka Salas and Noah Garza. Barbara is also survived by two brothers, Reyes Garcia and Aniseto Garcia; two sisters, Adela Espinoza and Victoria Ruiz; Brother-in-law, Mencho Espinoza; Sister-in-law, Isabel Garcia; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tim Garcia.
A visitation will be held at All Faiths of the Pines in Smithville, TX on Thursday, November 20, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00. The funeral service will be at St Paul's Catholic Church in Smithville, TX on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 11:00 AM.
