Billy Joseph Davis Jr died peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Smithville Texas on Wednesday August 17, 2016 at the age of 80. He was born August 27, 1935 to Lillie Mae Wilkerson-Davis and Billie Davis Sr in JD Creek Texas.
He was the second born of two brothers Irvine Lee Davis and Tommy Earl Davis and three sisters Virgina Ann Davis, Betty Jean Davis, and Nona Mae Davis. He graduated from Smithville High School in 1954. Billy then married his wife of 58 years Joyce Ann Thiede on October 6, 1956 in Cistern Texas at the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic church.
Billy was known by many names Bill, Billy, Mr. Bill, but most importantly as Dad and PawPaw. He was described by many simply as "A Good Man." He gave selflessly to anyone in need always putting others before himself. He could fix a tractor with a clothes pin and even had a horse he could rope off of without a bridal. As a young man Billy enjoyed the country life, he raised many champion hefers, worked on his family farm and was a accomplished horseman. He and his late wife Joyce bought Davis Texaco in 1967 from Mr. Cletus McClure. He followed in his fathers foot steps as a elected official, serving two terms as Bastrop County Commissioner in the late 1970's. In his later years you could find him on "The Bench" with the "The Bench Boys" reiminssing of earlier years, always being a true gentelman when any lady was around and giving free advise and life lessons to anyone who would listen. He will especially be remembered for his giving spirit and for his love of life and everyone in it.
Billy is survied by his two sons Jim Davis (Sylvia) and Lee Davis (Marlene) both of Smithville. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Sara Vinklarek (Matt)of Smithville, Adam Davis (Camille) of Amarillo, Courtney Davis (Heath Taylor) of Cedar Park, Troy Davis of Austin, and Noah Davis of Smithville and seven great-grandchildren: Landon, Sophie, Chloe, Samuel, Kinley, Ryker, and Jacob. Also by his brother Tommy Davis and sister Nona Davis-Gold.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents Billy Sr. and Lillie Wilkerson-Davis, sisters Betty Davis-Lewis and Virgina Davis-Williams, brother Irvin Davis known as Chub.
Visitation will be Friday August 26, 2016 at All Faiths of the Pines from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Services will be held Saturday August 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Smithville followed by burial at Oak Hill Cemetery.
