South Austin Location

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Clara B. Deters, who passed away on June 27, 2022, at the age of 87 in the comfort of her home.

Born in Laredo, Texas on September 25, 1934 to Earl Dewey and Maria Teresa Flores Brown , she graduated from St. Augustine High School and received her Bachelor's degree in 1979 from Thomas More College while working with Cincinnati Bell.  She began her career with Cincinnati Bell as a telephone operator and later held several  management positions. She retired after working with them for over 30 years.

Clara loved her only nieces and was always supportive of them and encourage them to attend ballet and dance classes through their young lives and attended their recitals yearly.  She loved to attend family gatherings with the Deters family while living in Covington, Kentucky and always spoke about her joy during the Kentucky Derby gatherings at the Charlie Deters farm. Her brother-in-law Jim Deters was always available to assist her during the last years of her husband’s life and afterwards.  She was truly blessed to have wonderful in-laws in Covington, KY.  She moved to Austin Texas to be close to her sister-in-law and nieces after the death of her husband and brother Robert E. Brown.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank Jerome Deters from Covington, Kentucky and her brothers, Frank Dewey Brown and Robert Earl Brown.

She is survived by her four nieces, Rose Mary (Alfred) Reyes, Estela (Richard) Shea, Evelyn (Chris) Kyler, Vilma Brown, sister-in-law Estela E. Brown, grand nieces and nephews: Al Reyes, Julie Reyes, Daniel Reyes, Michelle Shea, Richard Shea III, Ashley Kyler (Vince) Cusimano, Christopher Kyler, Layne Rinker; and four great grand nieces and nephews Addison, Vincent, Savannah, and Knolan Cusimano.

She was loved and cherished by many people, longtime friends, Connie Weatherford, Gina Bean and  Anita Rodriguez who called her several days to pray the rosary together.

Mass will begin at 9:00 AM at St. Paul Catholic Church 10000 David Moore Dr, Austin, TX  on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. The mass service will be conducted by Father Johnson Nellissery and the burial will follow at Onion Creek Memorial Park.
