Clifford “Cliff” Joseph Powers died on Monday, 10/25/2021 in Austin, Texas. At the time he left to meet the lord, he was at peace and surrounded by his loving family. He was 81 years of age.
Born July 8, 1940 in Indio, CA, he would call Texas home in 1955. In 1957 he married his high school sweetheart, and the two started their family, remaining married until the day of his death 64 years later. From the age of 18, he spent more than thirty five years working for the Texas Department of Transportation. Starting at the bottom as a roadman, he would later become Director of Engineering and Management Support, and helped to introduce the Texas highway department’s Automation Division. For decades he was actively involved in the church as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. A man wise beyond his years, he engineered and built his family’s home, one that was almost completely energy neutral in 1980. He did so, paycheck to paycheck, board by board, and nail by nail, with only his two hands, and the help of friends and relatives. Since childhood, he was an avid fisherman, familiar with many of the Texas Gulf Coast’s best fishing holes, and he also frequented waters in Colorado, and Alaska. True to form, and outdoorsman to the end, he continued to enjoy hunting, gardening, and clearing the land behind his home, even in his final days.
Ever the family man, Cliff is survived by his loving wife Jeanette Powers, adoring daughter Kim Anthony, adopted great granddaughter Haley Whitt, (5) grandchildren, (8) additional great grandchildren, and (2) great great grandchildren, along with his sister Barbra Holley and brother Carl “Corky” Powers. He was preceded in death by his parents Clifton and Ursula Powers, son Leslie Powers, and sister Helen Pesek.
