Daniel "Dan" Earl Dodgen, 69, of Kingsland, passed away Saturday Aug. 8, 2015 in Austin surrounded by his family.
Dan was born on Nov. 16, 1945 in Pasadena, California to Edgar Earl Dodgen and Nell Phillips Dodgen.
He went to school in Austin, Texas, graduated from McCallum High school and attended college at Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas before meeting the love of his life Mary Daniel Dodgen.
Dan was a jack of all trades, and was the first to offer his help when anyone was in need. He enjoyed coaching Jason in youth sports, cooking on his BBQ teams; Dead Meat Cooking Team and 2 Lazy to P as well as traveling around Texas cooking for various cookoffs and events.
He spent many years volunteering at Austin Aqua Festival in physical arrangements, as well as volunteering his time cooking and raising money at the Travis County Rodeo BBQ Cookoff to provide scholarships for youth.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents and wife Mary.
He is survived by daughter DeDe Hodge and husband Lee of Spicewood; son Jason Dodgen and wife Stacia of Horseshoe Bay and sister Becky and husband John Barnes of Meadowlakes.
Dan, aka "Pawpaw" is also survived by grandchildren Halee and Peyton Hodge of Spicewood, Reece and Jackson Dodgen of Horseshoe Bay. Pawpaw loved watching all his grandchildren in their many activities and was their biggest fan. Dan's humor and love of life will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
A memorial and celebration of life for Dan will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015 at 3 p.m. at the Lakeside Pavilion in Marble Falls.
