Long time Austinite Darlene Camacho-Rosales, 64, passed away on June 8th, 2020. She was born on August 12th, 1955, in Killeen, TX.
She is preceded in death by her parents Lorraine and Daniel C. Camacho, and her only brother Daniel (Danny) D. Camacho. She is survived by her beloved daughter Danielle Rosales and sisters Dolly Camacho-Watson and Dolores Wilcoxen including many nieces, nephews, cousins and her extended group of Sisters.
Darlene fought a long battle with health and physical issues. She was a warrior and conquered them without exception. Until the end her resolve to live never wavered.
Her parent’s led her on a lifelong journey fighting for political and community rights. Darlene contributed to better safety standards, educational programs and more equality in East Austin, especially in the 78702 zip code. By helping minority and community members fill elected office, Darlene made for a greater Austin overall. She sought equity in all aspects of life for everyone in her barrio. Her passion for caring for and strengthening her community required her to wear many hats, fill many shoes to do what was necessary.
