Mrs. Darnell Taylor was born December 19, 1942 to Ossie and Estella Thomas in Paige Texas.
She received her education in the Bastrop Independent School District. Upon moving to Austin, she attended Austin Community College.
Darnell accepted Christ at an early age in Elgin, TX under the leadership of the late Rev. C.N. Means of Winn's Memorial Baptist Church. In 1999 Darnell united with the True Light Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor J. R. Williams. She served as choir member, President of the Pastor's Aide Committee, Treasurer of Mission One and the Mission One Youth Department, Sunday School Teacher of the Youth Department and decorating committee. Sister Taylor was a faithful member.
She worked at the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) as a supervisor and later worked for Montgomery Wards as a manager before retiring. After retiring, Darnell spent quality time with family, traveling and doing what she liked most - fishing with her husband Laray O. Taylor, Sr.
In searching for the light, Sister Taylor was installed into the Order of the Eastern Star in 1993, Moten Chapter # 126 an affiliation of the Queen of Sheba Grand Chapter, OES of Texas. Serving in several positions from local, district and state; working duly until her health failed. Sister Taylor was the Worthy Matron of her Chapter, Treasurer of District 8th & 9th Matron Council and sang in the District choir, a member of the State High Degree Department and held various offices in the Local High Degree Department. In addition, she held the position of Amaranth Matron of Pleasant Court #4. She served as an Assistant Worthy Advisor of the Maudie Brown Circle #26.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ossie and Estella Thomas and three sisters and five brothers.
She leaves to cherish her memory a beloved husband, Laray O. Taylor Sr., one brother, Willie L. Thomas (Karen); two sisters, Priscilla Joiner and Ruthie T. Matthew (Charles); one daughter, Cassandra M. Goldwire (Kenneth); four sons, W. Lee O'Daniel Young, Jr., Willie G. Young, Marvin K. Young, Gary D. Spikes; thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Visitation will be Friday, June 22, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at All Faiths Funeral Services.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 10:00 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, EM Franklin Chapel. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
