The Sun rose for Delores Jean Dixon – Houston on March 6,1950. Born to the late Rev. Joe Dixon Jr. and Robbie Lee Priestley-Dixon in Austin Texas. Delores attended L.C Anderson high school her sophomore year but due to integration moved to Reagan High School where she graduated and went on to attend the Texas Women’s University. Delores was united in holy matrimony to Harold Eugene Houston and to this union five children were born, Rhonda Houston-Johnson, Johnathan Houston, Willie Houston, Michael Houston and Joe Lee Houston. Delores accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend J.J Dixon of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served until her death, under the leadership of Reverend T.L Garner. Delores worked for AISD where her God given spirit allowed her to help children with special needs, She later retired after 36 years of service. Delores was an amazingly strong woman of faith throughout her life and fight with cancer. She would often say when ever asked how she was doing “oh I'm blessed’.
The sunset for Delores on Monday May 10,2021 at 9:35am at home surrounded by her family, where she heard the masters call, “Well Done Thy Good and Faithful Servant” you can come on home. Delores is proceeded in death by her parents Rev. J.J Dixon and Robbie Lee Dixon, Sisters Johnnie Mae Veal, Julia Faye Terry, Brothers Mathew Dixon, Rev. James Dixon, Harold Dixon and her husband of 50 years Harold Houston. Delores leaves to cherish her memory two brothers J.C Dixon and George Dixon. Her five children Rhonda Houston– Johnson Johnathan Houston, Willie Houston, Michael Houston and Joel Lee Houston. 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews family and friends The Love of her life was Harold E. Houston and the joy of her life was her family.
