His last days were filled with joy and laughter. Throughout his life, he quickly made friends and held a special place in the hearts of all who have had the pleasure of meeting him. Rudy had a gentle soul. He was a beloved man, with kind and generous disposition, easy to laugh, friend to all, salt of the earth. He will be missed and will always be remembered as the best father in the world. Wonderful memories of him are plentiful and rich, filled with laughter and humor as well as his dedication and loyalty to his family and friends and all in need.
Born to Arden Waldo Brown and Lottie Melissa Rhudy in Midian, Kansas. They moved to El Dorado, Kansas in 1940. He was the youngest of five children. Rudy was preceeded in death by his parents, brothers Hershel Arden Brown, Dean Billy Brown, Mack Elwood Brown and one sister Mary Eva Brown Hamilton.
He married Mary Schlesinger Brown in February, 1957 and had three children; son: Kyle Dwain Brown, two daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Brown and Amy Suzanne Brown. Son-in-law Rhett Mendell and two grandsons Samuel Brown Mendell, 13 and Henry Brown Mendell, 11.
Dwain Rudy graduated from Eldorado High School in 1948 and The University of Oklahoma in 1952. He enlisted in the USAF and served from 1952-1954. In 1957, he and his new bride were transferred with Petrolite Corporation to Carmi, Illinois where all 3 children were born. In October, 1968 the Brown family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas. Rudy continued to work for Petrolite Corporation until 1979, when he started his own oil field chemical company, CTS and continued to work until his retirement in 1995. Rudy was preceeded in death by his son, Kyle in January, 2004. In 2006 he moved to La Grange, Texas for two years until moving in with his daughter, Amy, son-in-law, Rhett and two children, Sam and Henry. He spent his last two months at Towers Nursing Home in Smithville, Texas where he enjoyed dominos and numerous activities with the wonderful residents and staff.
Everytime his daughter Amy would leave the house to take her boys, Sam and Henry, somewhere Rudy would say "Go take care of those boys." Even when he had advanced stages of dementia, he still put his grandsons needs before his own.
The Celebration of Rudy's life for friends and family will be on Saturday, October 26, 2006, 2-6 p.m. at 1002 Charleston Blvd, Smithville, Texas.
