Earl Fredrick Walborg, Jr., 81, died on Wednesday, May 24, 2017.
He was born to the late Earl F. Walborg, Sr. and Ruth Winblad Walborg, on November 13, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois. Earl graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Austin College in 1958 and received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Baylor College of Medicine in 1962. He married MaryAnn Owen on June 14, 1958 and together they lived and worked in Houston, Texas, Sweden, The Netherlands, Guatemala and Smithville, Texas. Earl was employed by the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for 22 years as a Research Scientist and then was President and CEO of Dermigen, Inc., an advancing edge toxicology consulting company for 19 years.
He was passionate about community service. Earl was a founding member of the Rotary Club of Bastrop County and served a term as President of the Club. He headed the Bastrop County Appraisal District during its formation and also served as President of the Smithville Hospital Authority.
Earl was a poet and his family and friends will remember the eloquence with which he delivered his gentle, caring and unassuming wisdom. He was a contributor to the Spoken Word group in Smithville.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, MaryAnn. He is also survived by his children: Son, Carl Walborg, Daughter, Margaret Walborg-Silva (Paul), Son, Eric Walborg (Leticia), and Melody Reynolds (Edd Daniel), Eric (Rick) Reynolds (Marilyn), and Kim Reynolds-Barlow (Terry). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Natalia Moore (James), Leyla Munoz (Mike Girard), Renato Munoz (Jessica), Nathan Walborg, Ruth Walborg, Amber Bryant Mixon (Lance), Randi Bryant Shrank (Bryan), David Reynolds, Richard Reynolds (Joanna); and numerous great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to UT M.D.Anderson Cancer Center- Science Park, First United Methodist Church of Smithville or the Rotary Club of Bastrop County.
A Celebration of Earl Walborg's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church of Smithville, Texas.
