Ernest Boynton

Ernest Ray Boynton, 77 passed away at his home Sunday morning May 27, 2012 in Austin. He was born November 30, 1934 in Anson, Maine to William C. and Gertrude Boynton. Ernie was a 20 year USAF Veteran, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam.

Ernie began his career in the military as a Crew Chief on C-47's and later as a Bomb Loader during the Vietnam War. He received many awards and commendations during his long & storied military career. While being stationed in England, he met the love of his life, Maureen Colman of Great Yarmouth, celebrating 55 years together Jan 18, 2012. Together they traveled the world, Europe, Washington D.C., Panama, Delaware and New Hampshire. Stationed at Bergstrom AFB, Austin, TX in 1970, he retired honorably from the USAF in 1975.


His vast knowledge and skill of anything mechanical or electrical made him the perfect neighbor, friend and Dad. You could always find him working on something in his garage, with multiple projects going on. He kept us all with working appliances & vehicles. For over 20 years, he went to The Salvation Army auctions, the "Sally" as he fondly called it, his second family, where he had many friends. You could find him sharing a cup of coffee with his Sally buds at McDonald's, his favorite place.
Ernie loved his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, attending as many family events as possible. He loved ice cream, just be sure to have a cone! An avid motorcycle enthusiast, he not only rode them but built several trikes. Maureen was always his co-pilot when he rode his bike to rallies & conventions.

He is preceded in death by his father and brothers, Rodney N.,Robert J. and Russell T. and sister Beth Clark.

He is survived by his loving wife Maureen of 55 years; his mother Gertrude Boynton of Athens, ME; brothers Richard of Madison, ME., William of So.Berwick, ME; sister Nancy McFarland of Kittery, ME; daughters Karen Rice and husband Jim of Dale, TX, Julie Arldt and husband Calford of Coupland, TX; grandchildren Melody, Ashley, Harmony, Samantha and Calford; great grandchildren Amy, Heather, Katlynn, and George; numerous other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11:00a.m. at All Faiths Funeral Services 8507 N. IH-35 Austin, TX.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to The Salvation Army or VFW.

Ernie was a Hero and patriot, who loved his country. He was a good man, respected & loved, he will be missed but never forgotten. Happy Trails Ernie.
