Ervin Herber

Colonel Ervin Charles "E.C." Herber, 90, retired USAF, passed away on July 31 in Round Rock. He was born in Austin on December 30, 1922 to Herman & Bertha Herber. He grew up in the El Roy area and moved into the Hyde Park neighborhood in 1938. He graduated from Austin High School in 1941 and attended the University of Texas for one semester before entering the Army Air Corps. He married Myra
Hill on March 1, 1944 and they had four children.

He served a total of 37 years in the military, most of it at Camp Mabry. Throughout his military career, E.C. won several awards and commendations and retired as a Colonel in the Air National Guard. He then became a real estate agent before retiring in 2003. He also served as a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 55, a Little League baseball coach in Pflugerville and as a Sunday school teacher at St. John's United Methodist Church.

E.C. was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Herman & Robert Herber and son, Larry David Herber. He is survived by his wife; son & daughter-in-law Robert & Ruthie Herber; son & daughter-in-law Kerry & Melody Herber; daughter Becky Herber; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10 at 3 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church. Donations can be made to the church, the Boy Scouts of America or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Reliant Rehab, San Gabriel Rehabilitation & Care Center and Resolutions Hospice.
