Carmen Hernandez of Austin, TX passed away surrounded by family and friends on Friday, July 21, 2017, at 2:40 pm. Born in Seguin, TX on October 23, 1949, to Theodore Rangel and Eva (Vigil) Martinez and was 1 of 9 children. Carmen married the love of her life, Ernest Hernandez, on February 1, 1969, and raised their four children here in Austin. Family was extremely important to her. She sacrificed so much just to make sure her family did not want for anything. She also really enjoyed travelling to see family and the wonders of the world.
She was a woman of faith and dedicated much of her time, even while sick, to helping others in need. She was very dedicated to her church throughout her lifetime, and in most recent years had volunteered as a catechism teacher for kindergartners. She was also a member of The Legion of Mary from third grade until her passing. She also volunteered with Meals On Wheels for 20+ years, even taking one of her kids with her at times to make her deliveries.
Carmen is preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, and 3 of her brothers, Ramiro Rangel, Roberto Rangel and Jose Rangel. She is survived by her children, Ernest and his wife Carol, Teresa and her husband Craig, Juan and Vanessa. She also leaves behind numerous family members including brothers, sisters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces and countless friends.
We will miss her wonderful laugh, huge heart and kind soul. Love you mom.
