Frank Cortez Garcia, affectionately known as "Fat Boy," passed away on March 9, 2025, in his hometown of Austin, Texas. He was born on May 8, 1954, in Austin, and went on to lead a life marked by hard work, generosity, and an infectious sense of humor.
Frank dedicated nearly four decades of his life to his career as a professional truck driver and operator, from 1970 until his retirement in 2009. Throughout his driving career, he took immense pride in the maintenance and cleanliness of his trucks, often spending hours ensuring they were ready for the road. His dedication to his work was not only a testament to his character but also to the love he had for his job and the friendships he forged along the way. Frank had a remarkable ability to connect with people, turning strangers into lifelong friends across his travels.
A devoted family man, Frank's proudest accomplishments included a 40-year marriage with his wife Linda Garcia and his success as a small business owner in partnership with his beloved friend and boss, Mr. Bill Stevenson. Their enduring friendship, rooted in their shared upbringing on the east side of Austin, spanned over four decades, showcasing Frank's loyalty and commitment to those he cherished. Beyond his own success, he consistently aimed to uplift others, never forgetting those who supported him throughout his journey.
Frank was known for his vibrant personality and was often the life of the party. When music played, it was not uncommon to see him on the dance floor, making everyone laugh with his charming dance moves and funny faces. He had a profound love for his favorite television show, "GUNSMOKE," and he never missed an episode, reflecting his passion for storytelling and the characters that resonated with him.
A loving father and grandfather, Frank leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by his wife Linda Garcia and children: Alishonn Bonnett, Romeo Perez, Wanda Cordova, Yolanda Wright, Rashonda Bonnett, Jessica Garcia, Freddie Garcia, Jackie Perez, Frank Garcia Jr., and Roland Garcia. He is survived by 32 grandchildren and 23 great granchildren and numerous nephews and nieces . He is also survived by his siblings: Dolores Maciel, Ernest Garcia, Richard Garcia, Julie Acevedo, Alex Garcia, and Louie Garcia.
Frank is preceded in death by his father, Eduardo Garcia; mother, Julia Garcia; brothers Edward, Jesse, and Alfred Garcia; and sisters Virgie Garcia and Mary Jane Childress.
The impact Frank had on the lives of those around him cannot be overestimated. His huge heart, generosity, and unwavering kindness will forever be remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
