Franklin Sweeney

Franklin "Dale" Sweeney, 58, a Florence resident, died after a lengthy and courageous battle with COPD surrounded by his family at St. David's Georgetown Hospital on the afternoon of June 30, 2012.
Dale, a lifelong Texan, was born in Denison on July 15, 1953. He was raised in the Fort Worth area, began working at a young age to help raise his brother and sister, and graduated from Trinity High School in 1971.
He was hired at Texas Instruments right out of high school, and went on to a lengthy career as a supervisor for Texas Instruments, Raytheon, Tyco and Seaton Corp./Staff Management.
Dale met the love of his life, Alicia, while working at Texas Instruments in Austin. The two married in 1985, and raised two daughters, Brandy and Patricia.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and water skier. He enjoyed NASCAR and football, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr., the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Tommy Sweeney and Cora M. Gilmore.
He is survived by his wife Alicia; daughters Brandy (and husband Jacob) Brooks of Folsom, La., and Patricia Sweeney of Florence, Texas; grandchildren Alasandra and Daisy; brother Darrell Sweeney of Cleburne, Texas; sister Cheryl (and husband Tom) Moore of Rockport, Texas; uncle Bill and aunt June Hough; aunt Ruth Bryan; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Dale is remembered as a loving and devoted son, nephew, brother, cousin, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed.
The family will be holding a memorial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the COPD Foundation in Dale Sweeney's name.
