George William Averill, Jr

George William Averill, Jr., 77, of Austin, TX, passed away on February 6, 2025. George was born in Detroit, MI, on January 4, 1948, to George William and Dorothy Cornell Averill.
George and his family lived in Birmingham, MI, until they moved to Florida in 1962. He graduated from Tarpon Springs High School in 1965 and then attended a technical school where he studied computers. Later, he got a job with the Federal Government at Patrick Air Force Base. In 1977, he moved to Austin, TX, where he had various jobs before being hired by the U. S. Internal Revenue Service in 1986. He worked there until he retired on May 1, 2024, with 40 years of Federal Government service.
He participated in many community activities during his early years in Austin. As a member of a radio club, he volunteered to work at Austin Aqua Fest in the communications area. He also volunteered to work as an election judge at one of the polls and later as an accessible parking enforcer. He was a member of the Star Trek Austin Regulars club as well.
George’s interests were varied. He loved many types of music, from rock to country to classical. He was a sports fan and especially enjoyed watching baseball and football. He rooted for the Chicago Cubs, the Detroit Lions, and other teams.
He is survived by his wife of almost 36 years, Evelyn, his son George William, III (Billy), his sister Janice Kelly, nieces Christine and Katherine, and several cousins. He is predeceased by his parents.
His family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to his many caregivers during the last several months of his life.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Services - North, Austin, TX. Graveside service to follow at Live Oak Cemetery, Manchaca, TX, that day.
