OBITUARY
Gertie Viola Ahart Simons was born August 21, 1934 in Ausitn Texas to the late Emery and Bertha Ahart. She passed peacefully into eternal life on Thursday, December 6, 2012.
Gertie united in holy matrimony to Gene Autry Simons Sr. and to this union three children were born.
She worked at Greater Mt. Zion Nursery School for over 30 years and after retirement worked for the City of Austin as a School Crossing Guard until her health failed her.
She was a member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church and served on the Usher Board.
Gertie was the youngest girl and the last of the eight Ahart siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Linda Marie Manor; three brothers, Emery Jr., Henry Sr., and Donald Ahart; and four sisters, Nettie Mae Howell, Alma Doris Gray, Ida Marie Shelby, and Hattie Lee Jackson.
Gertie leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Sheila Simons, a son Gene Simons Jr. (Charlotte), three granddaughters, Kennesia Peterson, Shenneka Peterson, and AshlAC. Manor; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives.
