Henry Lee Baker Sr. was born October 2, 1934 to parents Ada and Augie Baker Sr. in the Alum Creek Community of Cedar Creek, Texas. Henry was the fifth of twelve children. He was called by many Uncle Punch and Puncho.
He attended the Alum Creek community school. He left school early in order to go to work to help his family. He would work at various jobs including seasonal cotton picking with his future father-in-law the late C.L. Jones, Sr.
He would go to work for a construction company in the late 1950's and would later join the Ralph Watts Construction Company, where he remained employed until retirement in the late 1990's. Henry was a master carpenter, but talented in all areas of home construction and just an all around fix-it man. No task was beyond his skill level.
Henry professed a hope in Christ in 1972 and joined Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Creek, where he joined the Usher Ministry and remained active until his health wouldn't allow him to fulfill his duties. Henry was active in the maintance of the church including the old and the new Mt. Pleasant. He also was one of the main carpenters of the current Mt. Pleasant effice. Recently he maintained the church lawn until his health wouldn't allow.
Henry enjoyed many interests. He was a farmer/rancher in his spare time, where he raised hogs, cattle, horses, chickens, rabbits, and even goats at one time. Henry also liked to garden. He was known for planting a garden and sharing his bounty with all his friends and neighbors. Henry also had tremendous skill on the barbeque grill, known for his delicious barbeque especially his tasty wings. Henry enjoyed watching golf and was an avid fan of Tiger Woods. From time to time he would also take his fishing rod out to a local lake or pond.
On June 12, 1960 he married Eloise Jones of Cedar Creek and to this union three children were born, Brenda, Henry Jr. and Beverly. He was a proud father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Henry was a great father and was so proud of his children all of which he was able to send to college. He would smile with joy at the mention of his grandchildren. Family was very important to Henry, the care and compassion he had for family was unmeasureable. He took time to care for his mother Ada as her health began to fail, his dedication was truly remarkable. He was also like another son to mother-in-law Amanda for which he remodeled an entire house and seen to her needs as she grew older. Henry maintained loving relationships with each of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by this loving wife of 53 years Eloise; daughter, Brenda; son, Henry Jr., and wife LaTasha; and daughter Beverly and husband Michael. Grandchildren: Brandon, Bryan, Kemah, Kameron, Daysha, and Kameron. Brothers: Lawrence Baker, Johnny Baker (Lois), and John Baker. Sisters: Mary Baker and Louise Brown. And many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding him in death, his parents Ada and Augie Baker Sr., brothers: Brydell Baker, Willie Baker, Wayne Baker, Jim Baker, Augie Baker Jr., and sister Bernice Hodge.
A visitation with the family will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2013 at All Faiths Funeral Services- North Chapel. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 644 Hwy 21 West, Cedar Creek, Texas. Burial will follow at Sul Wright Cemetery.
