HOSEA was born to EFFIE WILSON and FLEMING HARGROVE in Crafts Prairie, region of Bastrop County and raised in Smithville, Texas by his aunt Mae and uncle Hosea, who gave him his name. He attend school in Smithville and graduated from Smithville High School.
HOSEA professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Craft Prairie Primitive Baptist Church under Rev. A. C. Clark. He was currently a member of Whatt Ministries under Pastor Hosetter Irvin, where he served faithfully until his health failed.
HOSEA worked for various employers in Austin; Gibson Retail Store, Austin State Hospital and Seton Medical Center. When not working he enjoyed planting and attending to his vegetable garden and fishing. The community looked forward to getting fresh greens to serve their famililes during the holidays.
HOSEA greatest love was his music. He picked up playing the acoustic guitar at an early age. HE made his first guitar out of a cigar box, after leaving Smithville for Dallas he set off across country doing seasonal farm work with his guitar by his side and would play in local clubs across the state. HOSEA picked up the electric guitar in Arizona, playing with friend Willie Thorton. He played song, I Love My Life and people started dancing from his new sound on the electric guitar and people still danced. After returning to Texas, HOSEA organizes his band and played regularly in Elgin, TX. HE began playing in local talent shows in Austin at Charlies Playhouse, Ernies Chicken Shack and many other local clubs in Austin and surrounding areas. HOSEA recorded, I love My Life, Party's on Me, Tex Golden Nugget (Dail Tone Records, Eddie Stout) with his bands Enter City Band and The Road Runners. HE also travelled and performed in Europe. He last sang and performed on stage at Skylark Lounge on his 87th birthday.
HOSEA died peacefully at home with family by his side September 3, 2018.
HE is preceded in death by his mother and father, EFFIE WILSON and FLEMING HARGROVE, sister May Dorthy Ayers, brothers, John L. Hargrove, Herman Lee Sharp, William Sharp; son, Hosea Hargrove Jr., daughter Annetta Mayberry.
HE leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Shirley, Debra, Hosetter, Glenda, Ester, Paula, Cameron, daughters-n-law, Sandra, Rose; sons, James, David James (Buddy); sons-n-law, Milton, Donnie, Kevin, Curtis, Nathaniel and special friend William Fagan: loving care takers, Buddy, Kevin, Angie; Prayer warriors, Deacon Charles & Nokie Ray; 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
