Howard L. Tiner, born November 20, 1921, passed away on November 5, 2013. Howard retired as park superintendent of Buescher State Park after 21 years of service. Following retirement he worked for Bastrop County Precinct 2 for several years.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1309 and he proudly took care of the building and grounds for over 36 years. He was also a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn Tiner; his daughters Pat Johnston and her husband Mike; Brenda Zapalac and her husband George. Grandchildren Toby Homuth, Terry Zapalac, Mariesa Leiferman and Cody Wilhelm Zapalac. Great grandchildren Whitney Waters, Dustin Leiferman, Taylor Homuth, Taryn Leiferman, Reid Zapalac, Kiley Leiferman, Ava Zapalac and Brooke Wilhelm Zapalac. Great great grandchildren Kaydence Kimball and Ty Waters.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at All Faiths of the Pines. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with Reverend Michael Murphy, officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Toby Homuth, Terry Zapalac, Joe Tiner, Cody Wilhelm Zapalac, Reid Zapalac and Dustin Lieferman.
