Iola Lynn Perkins was born on May 25, 1942 in Winchester, TX. The daughter of Robert August and Ida Pietsch Dunk, she grew up in Winchester, where she attended the Lutheran Parochial School through the 8th grade. She then attended LaGrange High School, but was unable to continue due to sickness in her family which required her to help at home.
On July 27, 1960, she married Lee William Perkins, who she became acquainted with several years before. Later, Lee enlisted in the Army and during the next 15 years Iola and Lee were blessed with five children: William, Sandra, Lynda, Anna, and James. In July 1975 the decision was made to leave the Army life behind. Iola, Lee, and their family returned to Winchester. During this time they lost two of their children, Anna and Sandra.
Iola passed away at her home on July 31, 2016. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lee; son William and wife Sharon of Elgin; daughter Lynda Rosati and husband Rocky of Giddings; son James of Giddings; her sister Ida's son Jason Dunk of Winchester; grandson Ryan Rosati of Giddings; and her brother Delbert Dunk of LaGrange.

Iola was an Avon representative for over 30 years, and her customers remember her always including a special gift with each order to show her appreciation. Her interest in health and well-being led her to enroll in several correspondence courses through Stratford Career Institute, where she was awarded a diploma with the highest honors. Iola and Lee enjoyed reading books and watching movies together every evening.
Iola enjoyed listening to sermons by Billy Graham and his son Franklin Graham. She also loved gospel music, especially songs sung by Glen Campbell and Elvis Presley. Iola's faith as a Christian was unwavering, which has brought her family comfort knowing that she is with Our Heavenly Father now.
