Ira Cavanaugh

Ira Odell Cavanaugh was born March 12, 1941 in Austin, Texas to Joseph Daniel Cavanaugh and Frances Mae Swan Cavanaugh. He served in the United States Army as a Recovery Specialist earning medals for National Defense Service; Vietnam Service with Three Bronze Service Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign; Good Conduct and Marksman (rifle).  Following his enlistment in the U.S Army he worked for the City of Austin in the residence department and AISD as a Bus Operator. He later earned a degree from Austin Community College. He loved the Lord and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and during his walk was called to preach; early on he served at Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church and later under the leadership of Albert Durden of Deliverance Temple in Jesus Name. Ira loved telling jokes and spending time with his family. He was a loving and caring man and no was a word often not heard from him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nancy and Mary Cavanaugh, Velma House, Bertha McCradic; brothers Lee Byrd, Eugene, Alexander, James and Joseph Cavanaugh and granddaughter, Sierra. Ira leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Richard and Ira; four daughters, Gwendolyn (Lori), Bernadett (Deray), Mary, Magnolia (Ronnie); three sisters, Marjorie Gentry, Juanita Jackson, and Celeste Gibson; one brother Bobby Gene Byrd; 20 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
