James Compton

Semper Fidelis – Always Faithful. The U.S. Marine Corps motto sums up the commitment each one of the few and the proud makes on daily basis to protect our country by land, air and sea.

James Albert Compton, 57, of Austin, Tx, embodied this motto.  He passed away and entered the kingdom of Heaven on September 9, 2018, after a courageous four-year battle with prostate cancer. He gained his angel wings, peacefully, at home surrounded by his family as it began to rain just outside his window.  James was born October 8, 1960 in Corpus Christi, Texas and raised in Austin since the age of 8.  He entered the military at the tender age of 17 and served honorably in the United States Marine Corps up to, during and beyond the First Gulf war (Desert Storm).  He rose to the rank of Master Sergeant during a 21-year career.  James believed in our military and strongly supported our troops. Following his discharge, he then was employed by the State of Texas until his retirement in 2015. James enjoyed playing poker, fishing, martial arts training, and dancing to country music. His generosity knew no bounds, and his endless unconditional love for his family will never be forgotten.  James is survived by his mother, Helen B. Castilleja, of Austin, Tx.; his beloved children, Albert Compton (Cengly) of JBLM, Washington, Rosa Onelangsy (Bobby) of Bettendorf, Iowa, John Compton (Dolores), Joe Compton (Sarah), and Melissa Compton, all of Austin, Tx., his siblings, Mary V. Compton-Limon and John P. Compton of Austin, Tx.; Jeff T. Compton (Perla), and Frank G. Compton (Michelle) of Pflugerville, Tx.;  half siblings, Michelle Garcia (Gilbert), Danny Compton (Mary), Cecilia Rubio (Xavier), Joe Compton (Maricela), Israel Compton (Lourdes), Deborah Zaval (Enrique), Mark Anthony Compton, all of Laredo, Tx..  He was preceded in death by his father Jimmy Compton, and by his older brother Michael J. Compton.  He also leaves behind 21 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and finally countless friends who adored him. The family would like to thank Austin Hospice Care for their help and comfort, as well as to all those who have said prayers for James during his courageous battle.
