James T Vaughn was born on January 1st, 1929 in Lyons, Indiana. He entered the U.S. Air force in 1947 and served during WWII and Korean War. In 1953 he was discharged from the US Air Force with the rank of T/Sgt.

In 1991, he retired from the Austin Police Department with 14 years of service. He retired to Smithville, Texas where he was very active in the VFW Post 1309, American Legion Post 180 and Native American Warrior Society.
