John Henry Baker Sr.
November 18, 1948 – June 8, 2022
John Henry Baker Sr. was born on November 18,1948 to Augie Lee Baker Sr. and Ada Bell Wilson Baker
in Austin, TX. John attended Anderson High School, and in 1971 was drafted by the United States Army.
He served from 1969-1971. John received the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal
w/3 Bronze Service Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Sharpshooter (Rifle M-14); Expert (Rifle
M-16). John married Fannie Sue White in 1973.
John was a hard worker. He worked in construction, as cook, and worked for the state for many years
where he retired in 2001. John loved to go bowling, fishing, traveling, and playing dominoes with family
and friends. John was known for his willingness to help others. He you could find him mowing someone
else’s yard, changing their oil, and making sure they had transportation to appointments.
John attended Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Creek, TX. under Pastor Carter where
he served as an usher.
John is preceded in death by his parents Ada B. Wilson Baker and Augie Baker Sr. Seven brothers Byrdell (Dixie) Baker, Augie Baker Jr., Willie Baker, Henry Baker Sr., Jim Baker, Wayne Baker Sr. and half brother C. B. Basped Baker. Three sisters Bernice Baker Hodge, half sisters Augrine Baker McShan and Effie Lee Baker Taylor.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his children, two daughters Michelle Baker and LaShonda Jerrells. Two sons, John Baker Jr. and Jedadiah Baker Sr. Four grandchildren Darwin White (Annesia), Monisha Jones, Jedadiah Baker Jr. and Ja’Nayah Jerrells. Two great grandchildren Fredrick Strong Jr. and Noah Strong and two step great grandchildren Auriah Fennell and Avery Fennell. Special niece and nephew Averie Rollins and Brandon Rollins. His brothers Lawrence Baker and Johnnie Baker (Delores) and sisters Mary Baker and Louise B. Brown. Numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and his walking buddies.
John will be forever missed and will remain in our hearts!!
