John Timothy (JT) Fields, 61 years old, of Georgetown, Texas died September 18, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born March 5, 1953 in Waco, Texas to Martha and John Fields; the family later moved to West Lafayette, Indiana where he grew up. JT was an avid member of Boy Scouts and earned the Eagle Scout Rank at the age of 16, He represents the third generation of high-ranking scouts. His son Timothy continued the family tradition by attaining the Eagle Scout Rank in 2012 with his father's help and encouragement.
In high school JT was a Track and Cross Country star; he still holds the record for the 2 mile event. He graduated from William Henry Harrison High School in 1971. Because he liked keeping busy and having spending money, he had jobs from an early age including a lawn mowing business, which he started when he was in high school. While attending Purdue University in 1971-72 he joined Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. When he wasn't invited back to Purdue, he left Indiana to "find himself". His travels brought him back to his birthplace and Texas became his home for the rest of his life.
His first job in Austin was construction; later, he worked for Atlas Moving Company, which allowed him to travel throughout country. JT was proud of visiting 49 states - Alaska being the only one he didn't make it to. After spending 9 months in France, he returned to Austin and earned his real estate license and began working with his father. While working in real estate he met Mary Fox and they were married in 1988.Most recently he worked as a salesman for Highpoint Powder Coating with his long time friends Dave and Becky Hansen.
His greatest joy was his children - son Tim and daughter Caroline, who both inherited his witty sense of humor. Being a good dad was a priority to him, and he loved spending time with his kids. His church home, Grace Presbyterian was very special to him. His faith grew significantly during his time there. JT first served by setting up chairs and later as a deacon and then an elder.
JT is survived by his son Timothy Fox Fields and his daughter Caroline Jeanne Fields, both of Georgetown, Texas. He is also survived by his parents Martha Fields of Austin, and John Fields of Marble Falls, his sister Elizabeth Erwin and her husband Geoffrey Erwin of Austin, his brother Jim Fields of Marble Falls, and his nephews: Andrew Erwin and wife Rachel, Alexander Erwin, John Martin, Patrick Joseph, and Jacob Charles Fields, and his great niece and nephew, Emery Kendall and Hayes Taylor Erwin.
A memorial service will be held in celebration of JT's life on Sunday, September 21, 2014, at 3:00pm at Grace Presbyterian Church. The service will be officiated by his pastor and dear friend Nancy Reeves. It will be followed by a reception hosted by the women of Grace Presbyterian Church. Grace Presbyterian is located at 1705 Gattis School Road, Round Rock, Texas 78664. If you feel called to give, his family has requested that people make memorial donations to the Sign Fund at his church. In this way JT will be part of inviting more people into Grace. https://www.parishpay.com/nonprofit/d/gift/make.html?start=true
