John Gwin

November 2, 1955 — July 21, 2016

North Austin Location

Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Let us remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant John.

John Malcolm Gwin was born in Morgan City, Louisiana on November 2, 1955 to parents Malcolm Martindale Gwin and Irene Ruby Rastetter Gwin. He was reborn as a child of God in the waters of Holy Baptism as a child. Later, John was confirmed in the Christian faith and was fed the life-giving body and blood of Jesus. He was united in holy marriage to Belinda Marie Woodard Gwin on July 15, 1974 and blessed with forty-two years of married life together. God also blessed them with the gift of three children: Christine Marie, Rebekka ReneAC., and Stephanie Pauline.

God blessed John's life with many special people as he served God in his vocations at home, church, work, and in the community. In May 1974, John graduated from Hale Center High School in Hale Center, TX. In May 1978, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, TX. In June 1985, John joined the Federal Bureau of Prisons and Department of Justice. He retired from the Federal Correctional Institute in Bastrop, TX in November 2014. John was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Smithville, TX, along with his family. He loved to fish and camp out and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

On July 21, 2016, God called John home to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead. John was preceded in death by his parents Malcolm and Irene. He is survived by his wife, Belinda, his children, Christine, Rebekka, and Stephanie and her husband Loyd Tullos, and his granddaughter, Sarah Pauline. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our brother John.
