John Scallorn, Jr

John Reagan "JR" Scallorn Jr. (1-22-36 - 12-27-16). After a sudden illness, JR passed away peacefully at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Ellen, His son, John Scallorn of Smithville and wife Tiffany; His daughters Tina Collins of Bastrop and husband Michael; Connie Petty of Smithville and husband Jeff and Brandi Smith-Young of Austin.

JR is also survived by his sister, Louise Windmiller of Pearland and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and outlaws. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Reagan and Carter Scallorn, Allison Young, Christina Davis, Ashley Gunter, Angela Hazlip, Amber Grube and Kaleigh Collins.

He was born to Reagan and Roxie Scallorn in 1936 in his grandmother's home in Smithville. JR graduated from Smithville High School in 1954. After which he served his country in the United States Air Force from 1956-1960, advancing to the rank of Drill Sargent. JR was an accomplished fast-pitch softball player both during his time in the Air Force and on local community leagues.

JR worked as a railroad engineer for 37 years, and retired in 1999. He enjoyed his many years as safety captain for the Smithville Depot and was a proud member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

He served as a trustee of the Smithville School Board from 1987 to 1992. JR also loved the limelight of playing Junior Sample in Smithville's version of the Grand ol'' Opry.

Most of all, JR loved to hunt, fish, play cards and visit with his friends and family. He leaves behind a hole in our community that will be difficult to fill. He gave love and was loved back. JR will be remembered in our hearts forever.
