John Tabor

Lt. Col. John Tabor USAF Retired died on February 15, 2018 at the age of  88.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Toni Tabor Oyler, his parents Paul and Beth Tabor and one brother, Paul F. Tabor Jr. and sister-in-law Virginia Tabor.

A career Air Force officer, Col. Tabor served almost half of his 21 years of active duty in England, Germany, Spain, Greece, Johnston Island and Vietnam. Most of his military assignments were in management, public relations and public information fields. In Vietnam he published a newspaper and operated a radio station as well as conducting a combat tour program for national news media representatives. Tabor's decorations include the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, the Bronze Star with “V” for Valor, The Legion of Merit plus ten lessor citations. His last assignment was as executive officer to the Commanding General Twelfth Air Force at Bergstrom Air Force Base.

After his retirement from the Air force in 1973, Colonel Tabor served as General Manager of the Austin

Symphony Orchestra and Executive Director of the Texas Assembly of Arts Council. A career in Real Estate followed as he was an active partner and Broker in a real estate business in the Onion Creek Subdivision until 1984 when a benign brain tumor caused partial blindness. Removal of that tumor left him legally blind, but did not deter his desire to serve his fellow man and he could be found volunteering in various activities along with his wife Georgia. From 1999 to 2002 he served as Duty Officer every Wednesday with the San Antonio Retired  Officers Association and was awarded the  SAROA Volunteer of the Year Award in 2003.

Colonel Tabor was a graduate of North Texas University and Boston University. He was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. He enjoyed a good golf match and was an avid Texas Longhorn sports fan.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia Tabor, one brother Christopher Tabor,  his wife Shannon and nieces Chelsea, (Jared Wood) Natalie Tabor, Emily Tabor, Tracy Tabor Smith, (Coke Smith)Terri Tabor  Wilson, (Mike Wilson) Debby Tabor Lucas-Moerbe (Larry) one and nephew Paul Francis Tabor III.   (Trey)  Three granddaughters Kelly McKee Brednich, Chelsea McKee Delbar and Austin McKee as well as Georgia's children and their families.

A celebration of his life will be held at St Matthew's Episcopal Church, Saturday March 10 at 1:30 PM
