Ms. Johnnie Mae Crawford has answered her call to go home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 15, 2016. She was surrounded by her loving family, and was courageous and inspirational woman who remained strong in her faith until the end.
Johnnie was born in Bastrop County, Texas on August 28, 1924 to her parents Johnny and Beatrice Jackson. She accepted Christ into her life at a early age. When she lived in Austin, Texas she was an active member of David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. She moved to Dallas, Texas and while living there she became a member of Alta Mesa Park Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Woman's Chorus, a Deaconess, Sunday school teacher and help decorate the church for different events. She was also a very active member in the Garden Club, where she entered numerous contests and won many blue ribbons. She loved gardening and was always working in her beautiful yard. She loved to cook and feed everyone she knew. She loved her family and was always there if anyone of them needed anything.
Furthermore, while living in Dallas she had the pleasure of working for the lovely Giles Family, parents Barney(deceased) and Debbie Giles, their children John Giles, Jason Giles, Rob Giles and Jenny Giles-Blakeney. She worked for the family for many years, but to her this was more that a job. They were her extended family and she loved them very much. We want to thank them for being a part of her life. Johnnie became ill and had to move to Austin, where she kept strong in her faith and she became a member of St. Edwards Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Beatrice Jackson, Husband A.L. Crawford, three Sisters, Clara Jackson, Charlesa Jackson and Leola Washington; five Brothers, John Edward Jackson, Albert Jackson, Joseph Jackson, Randolph Jackson and Charles Andrew Jackson.
Johnnie is survived by her devoted daughter Lola Carter, two grandchildren Torrance Gettrell Carter and Deandra Carter-Jones(Don); two Great-granddaughters Cassie Dai carter and Dainique Nicole Jones, one sister Willie Raye Thompson(Odean); one aunt Dixie Lee Chandler; a host of nieces and nephews. Numerous extended family members and friends also remain to cherish memories of Ms. Johnnie Crawford.
