Joyce Ann Thiede Davis died peacefully surrounded by family in Smithville Texas on Sunday September 7, 2014 at the age of 77. She was born July 7, 1937 in Cistern Texas to Edmund and Olga Svec Thiede.
She was the middle of two sisters Bernice Thiede Beale and Laverne Thiede Wilhelm. She graduated from Flatonia High School in 1955. Joyce then married her husband of 58 years Billy Davis, Jr. on October 6, 1956 in Cistern Texas at the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Billy and Joyce purchased the Texaco Station in 1964 where they would live and work until Joyce moved to Towers Nursing Home in 2013.
Joyce always placed the needs of others before her own. She walked the earth with a conviction to be selfless and to bless others. Anyone who entered her home was offered steadfast hospitality, gracious conversation, and an incredible meal. She was known for her delicious pies, sugar cookies, and beautiful memories made during the process with her grandchildren that she adored. Gardening was one of her passions she inherited from her father Edmund. With a gift to nourish all living things, she created beautiful landscapes showcasing rose bushes for all to admire. Joyce loved to spend time at her family home in Cistern catching fish out of the same pond she did as a child. Joyce had an infectious smile and radiant spirit that words simply fail to convey. She smiled with her eyes, laughed with her soul, and nourished with her heart all who were fortunate enough to cross her path. She spent the last year and a half of her life at Towers Nursing Home where she made many friends. She could be found attending church, in arts and crafts, or engaged in an intense game of dominoes.
Joyce is survived by her husband Billy Davis Jr and two sons Jim Davis (Sylvia) and Lee Davis (Marlene Jacobs) both of Smithville. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Sarah Vinklarek (Matt)of Smithville, Adam Davis (Camille) of Amarillo, Courtney Davis (Heath Taylor) of Cedar Park, Troy Davis of Austin, and Noah Davis of Smithville and seven great-grandchildren: Landon, Sophie, Chloe, Samuel, Kinley, Ryker, and Jacob. Also by her sister Laverne (Cletus) Wilhelm, sisters-in-law Virginia (Wes) Williams and Nona Gold (Richard Moree), Pat Bush Davis and brothers-in-law Bennie Beale and Tom (Beverly) Davis.
