Joyce's family moved to Texas in the 50's. She attended McAllen High School. She played in the band. She worked as a waitress until she started her career as a bookkeeper. She worked for Longhorn Truck & Auto Rentals in Austin. While working here she was delighted to drive stunt cars for a Movie company that rented vehicles from Longhorn. She had a great time doing it & every time she told me about it, she got all excited all over again. In her later life she had to quit working when she discovered she had Bone Cancer. She survived many kinds of Cancer in her life but this last one did her in.
She was a volunteer of the American Legion for 20 years. She loved to cook with Calvin & compete in the Chili cook off's. She grew a garden and canned everything she grew. She had an Electric Train set that was all hers. Calvin had his own. Her love of music was awesome & she could really dance. She liked so many different kinds of music. Like Polka, Country, Religious, Rock & Roll, Country, Mountain Dulcimer & Big Bands. She had a large collection of cassette and records of her favorites like Willie Nelson and Elvis. She played the organ, piano & Hammer Dulcimer.
She loved to go & hear groups perform @ October Fest & see shows in Branson. She was able to meet many famous people in her travels. She was able to go to Germany and bring home coo coo clocks & Christmas decorations. She and Calvin always started to put up their Christmas decorations in October. They always had a large display every year. She & Calvin would dress up in Santa costumes' and receive anyone who would stop to walk through the yard and house and see all the beautiful displays. She had a strong will and mind. Not many won an agreement with her. She was part German on her mother's side and she was very proud of it. She was very Patriotic and every year she would go and put American Flags on the graves in the cemetery. She was a woman who could love deeply, give laughter, delight, and loving support. She could start up a conversation with anyone. We will remember her in many ways. Our love accompanies her on her journey home.
