North Austin Location

Lance Richard Karney was born November 28, 1944 to Lance Monroe Karney and Roberta Jacqueline Schafer Karney in Ovid, Colorado. He attended high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico where his dad inspired in him an appreciation for music. In fact, his dad helped him initiate a jazz band called "Lads of Knote" in which he played the saxophone and clarinet. Directly after high school he enlisted into the US Air Force. There he met a new friend, Gerry Brown, who introduced his sister, Carrol Brown, to Lance. They quickly took to each other and were married in January of 1968. Soon after, Lance adopted Carrol's young daughter Lisa Rose. They welcomed another daughter, Tamra Ranee, into the family a couple years later.

Lance worked for IBM in purchasing for over 30 years. Not only did he love his job, but his business associates loved having him on their team. Upon retirement, he began part-time work at Integrated Metal where he worked for ten years.

His love for music continued throughout his life and he played in several big bands. His all-time favorite was the Nash Hernandez Orchestra. His favorite genre of music was Latin! He ended up playing with that band for more than 30 years.

After being raised attending church, Lance gave his life to Jesus Christ when he and Carrol started attending North Austin Christian Church. He loved his family and enjoyed passing on his love of music to his grandson Christian.

Lance passed away on November 9, 2016 after having various medical complications. He had family by his side who greatly appreciated having Pastor Chuck Leyden present to pray with him as he entered the Kingdom of God.

Lance leaves his daughter Lisa Lane; daughter Tamra Franklin and husband Robert; grandchildren Hannah Davis-Lane and Christian Franklin; siblings Stephen Karney and wife DeDe, Norman Karney and wife Paula, and nieces. He is preceded in death by his wife Carrol Karney in 2013.

A memorial service in his honor will be held at Hill Country Bible Church Pflugerville in Texas on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 7:00pm.
