Lee Marion Johnson was born on December 19, 1943, in Marlin, Texas, to Andy and Doris Johnson. He spent his early years in Marlin before moving to Corpus Christi, Texas. As a teenager, he returned to Marlin, where he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and accepted Christ at an early age.
After high school, Lee moved back to Corpus Christi and began his career working for a marine drilling company. He later joined the University of Texas, where he dedicated ten years of service until his retirement. Over the years, he also worked for the Austin American-Statesman and Swedish Hill Bakery before retiring in December 2015, at the age of 72. Lee was a hardworking and dedicated individual who took great pride in his work. He had a deep love for his blue car and enjoyed traveling.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Doris Stewart and Andy Johnson; his son, Lee Marion Johnson, Jr.; his brother, Bertram Lynn Stewart; and his grandparents, Tommy and Adell Kiker, as well as Haymon and Minnie Tolbert. He was also preceded by his aunts, Hester Johns, Eddie Mae Madkins, and Ruby Crockett, and his uncles, Lee Marion Tolbert, Calvin Tolbert, and Robert Tolbert.
Lee leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his devoted wife, Emma Bills Johnson, who loved him dearly. He is also survived by his son, Antoine Lynn Johnson, and a son he raised as his own, Tommy E. Bills. Additionally, he leaves behind his daughter, Qwanna L’e Johnson, and Susie Sproell (Daniel). He brother, Majar Stewart (Johnnie), also mourns his passing. He was a proud grandfather to Daniel Sproell, Kayla Sproell, and Johna Dekim Brown Johnson. He will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Lee was a dedicated husband, father, and friend – loved by all who knew him. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering commitment to family will forever be remembered.
