Lisa Ann Myers was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on March 26, 1979, and passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2013, after a battle with cancer while living in Austin, Texas.
Lisa graduated from Winston Church High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1996. She obtained her bachelor's degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix. Lisa was a compassionate, caring person who loved people, and had a passion for children - especially those in foster care.
She began her calling in the foster care ministry working in an administrative role at Therapeutic Family Life, and then took a position of a nanny for a therapeutic group home at TFL. She returned to employment at TFL and worked in a variety of capacities, often directly with the founders there, Leon and Virginia Smith. She then served at a second agency, Benchmark Family Services, and obtained her undergraduate degree. This enabled Lisa to work in a more direct role of licensing foster adoptive families and placing abused and neglected children, often in forever homes. Her Facebook page still reads, "I wanna leave a legacy... . My goal is to affect as many children/families' lives as possible... "
It is believed that Lisa helped upwards of at least 100 children to find their forever families. Countless foster adoptive parents cite Lisa as who changed their lives forever.
During her time in the foster/adopt ministry, Lisa also became a foster-adoptive parent herself, providing a foster home to about 13 children. The highpoint of this period of her life was when she adopted a son, Benjamin Syris, who had special needs from the time of his birth. Syris passed away unexpectedly in 2009 due to complications with an unknown intestinal infection.
Lisa had always wanted to visit the state of Washington, in particular Seattle, but due to her illness did not make the trip. She enjoyed her recent visit to the ocean at Panama City Beach, Florida, with her family. She enjoyed long motorcycle rides and socializing with countless friends while living in San Antonio. She moved to the Dallas area with plans to start a new life, and made a circle of friends there as well, prior to her diagnosis and ultimate return to Austin.
Lisa is preceded in death by her grandfather, Henry Hohman and by her beautiful son, Syris. She is also preceded in death by her uncles, Tim Hool and Ken Hill and several great aunts and great uncles.
Lisa is survived and mourned by her mother, Pat Myers, brothers Adrian and Aiden Myers, and sister Addison Myers all of Austin, and her father Chuck Myers of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by her grandmothers Arlene Hohman of Vassar, Michigan and Martha Myers of Sacramento, California, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. She leaves behind a huge number of friends, as once you met her, you were her friend for life; and her very dear pets Riley and Bella who comforted her beyond the call of duty. Lastly, she leaves her legacy, which is countless numbers of families and children, whose lives have been changed forever, due to her unwavering efforts during her time working in the child welfare field.
We would like to thank the staff at Texas Oncology, Austin APD and EMS along with South Austin Medical Center ER.
Memorials may be made to her family. A memorial gathering and celebration will be held at All Faiths Funeral Home South Chapel, at 4360 S. Congress, at the corner of S. Congress and St. Elmo in Austin, TX on Saturday, June 29th between the hours of 1PM and 3PM.
