Margaret Alleen Henley Muenzler died peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Friday, June 11, 2021. She was born at home in Gonzales County, Texas on November 1, 1925 to John and Lila Henley. She grew up in the Saturn community near Gonzales and graduated from Gonzales High School. After high school, she began her banking career. She married Orland W. Muenzler on September 16, 1946. They moved to Chicago for a year for Orland to attend HVAC training while Alleen continued her career in banking.
On returning to Austin, her son Randy was born. Alleen continued in banking and started her career at the former City National Bank in 1955. She became the secretary to John Scurlock and continued as his executive secretary when he advanced to CEO of First City Bank. She retired from that position in 1990. She truly enjoyed working at the bank and the many friends she made while working there.
The family enjoyed long vacations in the car to the Western US. Alleen and Orland also enjoyed watching various celebrities perform in Los Vegas and Branson. After they had both retired, they traveled to Hawaii and to Germany/Switzerland. After Orland died in 1999, Alleen enjoyed spending time with her son and his family and hearing stories about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alleen enjoyed spending her time reading and watching TV, especially old movies and musicals. She was diagnosed with dementia in 2019. She moved to Brookdale North where she lived until her death.
She is survived by her son, Randolph “Randy” W. Muenzler and wife Marvinette “Susie” Dietz Muenzler, two grandchildren Melissa Muenzler and husband Richard Howell II and Michelle Muenzler as well as three great-grandchildren, Harper, Henry and Holland Howell.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale North for the compassionate care during these difficult past two years. Special thanks to Megan and Erica for directing her care and supporting us through these challenging times. Thanks also to Hospice Austin for their support and guidance during these last two weeks, especially Ginny and Patty. You made a painful situation easier to bear.
Graveside services will be at Monthalia Methodist Cemetery in Cost, Texas at 1PM on Tuesday, June 15 with Pastor Paul Smith officiating. Memorials may be made to Dementia/Alzheimer’s research or Hospice Austin.
