Marilyn Marjorie (Hopkins) Scott died March 27, 2018 at her home in Austin, Texas. Born November 15, 1927 in Tacoma Park, Maryland to John and Lilian Hopkins of Benzonia, Michigan, she attended Oberlin College in 1947 and graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit in 1977, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting. She later became an enrolled agent for the Internal Revenue Service.
In 1949 Marilyn married Dean Scott, and together they were very active in the various communities where they lived, including UT LAMP and the Stephens’s Ministry at Hope Presbyterian Church in Austin. Dean predeceased her in 2003, and on her own, Marilyn continued the tradition of community service as a volunteer with the Friendship Force and as a precinct delegate with the Democratic Party, among many other organizations.
Marilyn is survived by her seven children: Kathryn, Marjorie, Dean, Elizabeth, Janet, John and Carolyn; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her brothers Fred and Richard Hopkins.
A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held at Hope Presbyterian Church on May 5, 2018 at 3 pm, 11512 Olson Road, Austin, Texas. Memorial gifts may be made in Marilyn’s name to Hope Presbyterian Church.
