Mary Ann Staton, 84, passed away March 12, 2020 in Austin, Texas, her home for her entire life. Mary Ann was born on October 4, 1935, to Ansel “Pete” Peterson and Mabel (Johnson) Peterson. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Lloyd “Buddy” Peterson. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Darwin, her daughters, Debbie Hutchinson and husband Kevin of Tyler, Texas; Laurie Roehrig and husband Tom of Buda, Texas; and Lisa Zumwalt of Austin, and the lights of her life, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Matthew Zumwalt of Austin, Amber Bailey and husband Jonathan and their children Cassandra and Adam of Austin; Christina Roehrig and Luke Roehrig of Buda. In addition to her immediate family, she is also survived by many sisters- and brothers-in-law, several generations of nieces and nephews and other friends.

Mary Ann attended public schools in Austin - Metz Elementary (where she first met Darwin), Allan Junior High and Austin High School, where she was a member of the Red Jackets Drill Team and from which she graduated in 1953. She married Darwin on May 14, 1954 in Austin at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Mary Ann spent the majority of the last 5 decades buying and selling antiques and collectibles. She owned Bygone Days Antiques in Austin for more than 25 years and also sold items through many antique malls throughout central Texas. She loved the thrill of the hunt, getting a good bargain and making a nice profit. She also enjoyed going to casinos and playing the slot machines. She and Darwin traveled to Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada and Shreveport, Louisiana several times, but most recently enjoyed playing at WinStar World Casino in Oklahoma.

Mary Ann is being cremated and her ashes will be interred at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Liberty Hill, Texas at a later date.
