The fearless, inspiring spirit of Myron Dean Smith will live on in all she touched. She passed from this world on April 9, 2015 due to a rare sarcoma. Myron was born in Kingsville, TX in 1960 and grew up in Corpus Christi, TX among a loving family to become an enthusiastic marcher in the Battlin' Buc Band and a star of the first girl's basketball team at Roy Miller High School. In her first three years of college, she was awarded full basketball scholarships to play for the Amarillo College Lady Badgers and then the University of Missouri Tigers. For her senior year, she transferred to Oklahoma State University and earned a BBA in Finance in 1983. She moved to Houston and worked for a nationwide real estate investment company, earned her real estate license, and worked as a property manager before moving to Austin in 1992 where she resumed working as a property manager. Myron worked in residential sales and property management with Capitol Area Realty from 1996-2015. Myron served as President of the Dawson Neighborhood Association, as a Commissioner of the Community Development Commission and a Commissioner of the Planning Commission. Everyone knows she was an avid fan of the Houston Rockets. She had a unique bond with animals, including dogs, cats, turtles, koi, and birds. Myron was a "connector" who brought people together and helped improve lives.
Myron danced, laughed, kissed, hugged, gardened, swam, travelled, cycled, and hiked with the Love of her Life, Rebecca Sheller (Austin, TX) for 25 years.
Myron was preceded in death by siblings, Mae Francis Smith McDonald, Timothy W. Smith, Patrick Ann Smith, and Emma Ruth Smith Douglas. She will be dearly missed by her devoted parents Van Buren, Jr. and Elizabeth Smith (Corpus Christi, TX); her siblings Loretta A. Jackreece, Van Buren Smith, III (Jeanine), and Keith A. Smith (Angela), all of Corpus Christi, TX; and Vanessa Matthew (Pflugerville, TX). She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and eternal optimism.
