Nancy Carol Tuck went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 25, lovingly surrounded by family.
Nancy was born on a Friday afternoon, October 2, 1936 in the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. to Margaret Harner Tuck and William Bryant Tuck. She was raised in Philadelphia and lived in Upper Darby after graduating from Overbrook High School. She graduated from Pearce Jr. Collage. Nancy started her career in automation in 1969 and worked as a programmer, system analyst, and then a project leader for Nixdorf Computer Company. She moved from Philadelphia to Austin in 1976.
In Austin, Nancy worked for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and was instrumental in designing their computerized statewide accounting system and led the implementation team. She also taught management classes in the agency's training program. Nancy represented TxDOT as a member of the Texas Performance Review headed by then Comptroller, John Sharp. After attending various universities' night classes, she finally concluded her bachelor degree at St. Edward's University in Austin. Nancy was an independent thinker, great organizer and leader, and enjoyed public speaking.
After retiring from TxDot in 1998, Nancy led a very active life. She enjoyed traveling and held memberships in St. Matthew's Episcopal Church Senior Activity Center, the City of Austin's Senior Activity Center and AARP and worked as a volunteer for various organizations. She was a member of Northwest Hills United Methodist Church.
Nancy had six cats (one at a time) over a period of years and was devoted to each of them. She loved them dearly and enjoyed spoiling them.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her elder brothers, Bryant Russell Tuck and Carl Mellis Tuck and her sister, Bernice Joy Tuck Barnard. She is survived by nieces Brenda Joy Barnard (David) and Dianna Lee Tuck McCollum (Bruce), nephews Skip (William Charles) Tuck (Barbara) and Gary Barnard (Lydia), and their families.
Memorial Services will be held in Austin on Monday, March 17 at 3pm at the Northwest Hills United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Northwest Hills United Methodist Church at 7050 Village Center Dr. Austin, TX 78731
