Norma Del Rio Curcio passed away peacefully in her home in Austin TX on August 25th 2024.
Ten days before her death, Norma told her loved ones that her beloved Frank was coming to meet her. Frank preceded her in death on 12/17/2017. This provided great comfort to her family and many friends. Norma brought joy and light into the lives of everyone she knew.
Norma was born in 1932 to Demetrio and Mary Del Rio in NYC. Her parents came to NYC from their native Puerto Rico.
Norma met the love of her life, Frank, at a dance in NYC’s Central Park. Together they raised three children on Long Island, New York and in Houston, Texas where the family moved in 1974.
Norma is survived by: Daughter/primary caregiver Linda of Austin, Son Kenneth and his wife Kim of Magnolia, their children: Joshua and Sean; Son David and his wife Kippie of Chicago, their children: Bradley, Brittany and Hannah; Great Granddaughter Reyna (Joshua and Kathleen’s daughter) and Norma’s older sister, May Del Rio of NYC, May’s son/primary caregiver Eric of NYC and May’s son Andrew of California.
Norma lived her life with gratitude, kindness, curiosity, empathy and a brilliant sense of humor. These qualities live on in her entire family.
Our family extend our deepest gratitude to Norma and Frank’s longtime Primary Care Doctor Azim Shekarchi and to Austin Hospice, especially Nurse B. and Nurse Allison for their support, tender loving care and wisdom.
A Celebration of Life for Norma will be held on her birthday, Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Tiny T Ranch in Garfield, TX. Contact Linda to RSVP and for more info at Linda.Robin77@gmail.com
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Norma’s honor to: Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary in Navasota, Austin Pets Alive, the Nature Conservancy, the ACLU and Southern Poverty Law Center.
