O’Neil Urdy
A Beautiful Life to Remember
O’Neil Urdy was born on December 11, 1931 in Jonah, Texas. His parents were William Braxton Urdy, otherwise known as WB, and Pearl Roberta Jackson. He was the eleventh child of thirteen children. He accepted Christ at an early age as his Lord and Savior and became a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He entered his eternal rest on April 22, 2021 and went on to be with his Lord.
O’Neil married Barbara Marion on November, 25th, 1959 and they were blessed with five children, Susan, Carolis, Regina, Byron, and Nicholas.
O’Neil served in the United States Army and was proud to serve his country in the Korean War during 1950-1953. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
By profession and training he spent most of his life as an over-the-road truck driver, driving eighteen-wheelers and semi-trucks with United Van Lines and he later became an entrepreneur in long haul transportation. He was a longtime holder of a commercial driver’s license and due to his excellence in safety he received many awards and recognitions which included the coveted Safe Million Miles Driving Award. Highway Transport also presented him with awards which included two beautiful gold rings for driving safely without incident or accident throughout his career.
He is preceded in death by one daughter, Carolis Urdy, and three sons, Curtis Williams, also known as MoMo, Michael Williams, and Byron Urdy, as well as his parents, and five sisters and six brothers.
O’Neil is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Urdy, his brother Charles Urdy, his best friend and nephew Willie Lee Urdy, his six daughters, Kathleen, Karen, Susan, Dianna, Regina, and Katie, his four sons, Leland, Jeffery, Charles, and Nicholas, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
