Paula Joyce

Treasured wife, sister, and friend departed this world on the morning of April 16, 2013 after a courageous and protracted battle with illness. She is survived by her husband David Guthrie, her brother Timothy Reilly, canine family members Calvin and Hobbes, and a legion of friends from all over the world.

In a world that could, at times, be rife with challenges and sorrows, Paula could find the best in people. She had an abiding love for life which showed in her daily life. Her dedication to the people in her life, the lifelong commitment to her faith, and her fidelity to her proud Irish heritage served as a true inspiration and encouragement for all.

As inherited from her mother, she never met a stranger. Anyone fortunate enough to have been to her house was always greeted as family, and cared for as a beloved aunt, uncle, cousin, or sibling might. She was at her best when the stove had all burners going and a massive main course roasted in the oven. She excitedly surrendered her living room to the long feast table and the more folks that sat around it the happier she felt. Dessert was never enough even in the face or six or seven scrumptious selections.

The absence of her in this life is overshadowed by the overwhelming presence she was and is in the lives of those who knew her. The true loss in the world created by the absence of Paula from this physical plain is for those who did not have the privilege to have met or known her. Even this creates little cause for concern or undue longing as those that did know her will joyously sing her praises... for ages to come!

Memorial services will be held May 16, 2013. 11:00am at the Maranite Catholic Church on 51st st Austin.
