Peggie Hendrix

March 21, 1944 — November 28, 2015

North Austin Location

Peggie Edith Wagoner was born on March, 21, 1944, the second child of three, to O.D. "Ollie" Wagoner and Margarette "Peggie" Elizabeth Sharpe Wagoner. She learned the value of working hard, serving God and caring for others. In her early 20's, she met James "Jim" W. Gustafson. After a brief courtship, they were married on October 23, 1967. In January of 1969, they were blessed by the arrival of their first child, Edith Marie Gustafson. In December of 1971, their second daughter, Melissa Annette Gustafson was born. In 1974, Peggie became pregnant with a third child, but miscarried early on in the pregnancy. On October 12, 1974, Jim was killed in a head on collision while on his way to work at the young age of 31. Peggie grieved greatly, but continued to do her very best at providing a home, unconditional love and a good upbringing for her two daughters. She instilled in them a love for Jesus, hard work, sacrifice and a love for others. She taught them to be independent, resilient and to stand up for themselves. She made sure they knew she would always be there for them, whatever the situation. It was a learning process for Peggie, both being a single parent as well as taking care of a household. If something needed repairing, she figured out how to fix it, prayed over it or called on her father, or brother. She made sure that whatever job she worked, she was able to be available for her children and her extended family.
On August of 1990, Peggie married Tommy Hendrix, and took into her heart, his children, Tina and Phil Hendrix, and Phil's wife, Carolyn. Soon after, Tina married Micah Meche. Over the years, the family was added to with grandchildren: Katherine "Katie" Spurlock, James Spurlock, Ian Spurlock, Clifton Hendrix and Amanda Hendrix. She also loved her granddog, Tad Gustafson, whom she enjoyed taking naps with, because he kept her warm.
Peggie loved to read, sew and be creative. If she could picture it in her head, she would figure out a way to create it in actuality. She loved God with all of her being, enjoyed reading her Bible and showing and sharing the love of Jesus with others. She was quick to pray with someone if they had a need and would continue to lift them up in prayer and praise each day.
Peggie is survived by her husband, Tommy Hendrix; two daughters, Edith Spurlock and husband, Buck; Melissa Gustafson; Tina Meche and husband, Micah; Phil Hendrix and wife, Carolyn; Grandchildren, Katherine "Katie" Spurlock, James Spurlock, Ian Spurlock, Clifton Hendrix, Amanda Hendrix and Granddog Tad Gustafson; Mother, Margarette "Peggie" Wagoner; Sister, Aletha Krebs; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other dear family and friends.
She was preceeded in death by her first husband, James W. Gustafson, a miscarried child, her father, O.D. Wagoner and her brother, Jack "Dean" Wagoner.
Peggie will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched here on earth. The greatest comfort we can have is that we will one day be reunited with her in Glory.
