It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. In the early hours of Friday, August 5, 2016, Peter James Kent was called home. He was the fourth out of five children born February 20, 1943 to Thomas and Elizabeth in Worcester, Massachusetts. He grew up in a busy home full of laughter and mischief.
From an early age, he excelled in athletics, starring in baseball and basketball. He was even a member of the 1958 Boys Club National Championship, playing their final game at the Boston Garden. It was after high school when he fell in love with the game of golf. About this same time, he also met the love his life, Ingrid.
He was drafted into the Army and spent two years stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. Upon completion of his military service in 1966, he returned home to Massachusetts, where he married Ingrid and they immediately moved to Florida. While living in Florida he chased his dream of becoming a professional golfer. After a few years and endless rounds of golf, three children filled the house and a new opportunity would bring Pete and Ingrid's family to Texas. It was this opportunity that started the next phase of his life as a sales representative in the wine business and later with Lone Star Company and Block Distributing.
Pete was known as a hard worker with a lot of charm, humor, and wit with a touch of sarcasm. He was always the life of the party. Pete had much success and was loyal to Block Distributing and the retailers that he serviced for 30 years. The liquor industry was where he would meet so many of his lifelong colleagues and friends. His downtime was spent on the golf course, and at many games or activities of his four children.
Pete will always be remembered as a loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Ingrid, three sons - Peter and wife Stacey, Mark, Robert and wife Jennifer and a daughter, Heather and husband Ryan. Five granddaughters, Kaley, Kendyl, Brady, Lexi and Maddy. Two grandsons, Lincoln (d) and Fletcher. Siblings, Ellen Mora, Thomas Kent, Charlie Kent and his wife Carol, Doug Kent, and numerous nieces and nephews.
With a lifetime of memories we all want to embrace and share, our wish is to celebrate his love for the game of golf and ask that everyone wear casual clothes, including their favorite golf shirt to his memorial service. Service is scheduled for Saturday August 13, 2016 at 4:00PM at All Faith Funeral Home at 8507 North Interstate 35 Frontage Road Austin, Texas 78753. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kindred Gentiva Hospice Foundation 3350 Riverwood Parkway, Suite 1400 Atlanta, GA 30339 or www.kindredgentivahospicefoundation.org
