Rebecca Lynn McKnight Hogue passed away on February 20, 2014. She fought the good fight and she did not lose. She was born in Hillsboro, Texas December 27, 1947 to Avis Gene Sullivan McKnight and Joe B. McKnight.
Becky held a variety of interesting positions during her life, including homemaker, musician, draftsperson, shop owner, child care worker, secretary, hospice volunteer, and world traveler to name a few. She wrote the first curriculum book for the Extend-a-Care program in Austin. For several years, she co-owned Grape Expectations, a beer and wine-making supply store. She managed Family House, a facility housing patient families at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and most recently did volunteer work at Seton Medical Center Hays.
Becky was a university trained musician, specializing in flute and voice. She played in several orchestras and small combos in Texas, Memphis Tennessee, and Williamstown Massachusetts. She also mastered the concertina and button accordion. Most recently, she was a member of the folk/rock/pop trio Distant Cousins, which has played in the Austin area since 2009.
Becky was loving and courageous, and she is already sorely missed. She is loved by many.
She is preceded in death by her father Joe B. McKnight, two infant sisters Robbie Dianne McKnight and Rose Marie McKnight and an adopted brother Dana Joe McKnight.
Becky is survived by her beloved husband of 27 years Ben Hogue, her mother Avis Gene Sullivan McKnight, her daughters Haunani Lorianna Ayson Jackson and Robben Maile Ayson Fitzpatrick, her grandchildren Mia Rebecca Fitzpatrick, Ella Grayson Fitzpatrick, Sullivan Gabriella Biscan, Ian Asher Fitzpatrick, Piper Helena Biscan and Devlinn Pearce Giles Fitzpatrick, her two sons-in-law Jim Fitzpatrick and Jay Jackson, loyal friend and partner in parenthood Gabriel R. Ayson, his wife Janice Ayson and the whole Ayson family, best friend Susan Motzer Carter, her loving maternal cousins and a long list of loyal friends.
Friends are invited to a visitation with family on March 3rd from 10 am to 1 pm at the Hogue residence. Following a graveside memorial at 1:30 at Onion Creek Memorial Park, please join a celebration of her life at her home.
