Richard Randolph Barbour, age 57, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at St. David's North Austin Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Richard attended St. John's Military Academy in Salina, Kansas, joining the United States Marine Corp in 1976 after graduation.
He served four years and attained the rank of Corporal before receiving an honorable discharge. He worked in several industries during his career including medical technology, weighing instrumentation, and oil tool manufacturing, but found his real calling later in life when he received his Culinary Arts degree from Texas Culinary Academy, a Le Cordon Bleu School, in Austin, Texas.
He worked at Adams House Bed and Breakfast and ran a small catering service for several years before early retirement.
Richard was happily married for 34 years to Marka Blackwell Barbour and they lived for the last 15 years in Austin, Texas. Richard is remembered as outgoing, energetic, and generous, making friends everywhere he and his family lived. He was actively engaged in the PTA and PTO organizations at his children's schools with over 100 volunteer hours to his credit.
He is survived by his wife, Marka, son Eric and daughter in law Joanie, daughter Karen, parents Richard and Karen Barbour, sister Kathryn, brother Danyl, 1 aunt, 2 uncles, and 8 cousins.
The family is planning a memorial service to celebrate his life and accomplishments at a later date. Friends and family are invited to post their thoughts and memories on the guestbook at www.allfaithsonline.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation be made in his name.
