Robert Charles Gilmore of Smithville passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord on May 8th, 2016 surrounded by family.Better known as Bob, he was born on February 23, 1948 in Houston,Texas to Hazel Gilmore and the late Weldon Gilmore.
Bob grew up in Channelview, Texas and graduated from Channelview High School in 1966. He then went to college for a bit before deciding to serve his country through the Navy with a tour in Vietnam from 1968-1969. He finished his military service in 1973 when he went on to marry Brenda Hammond and have his first daughter, Brandi Kay, who arrived in 1973. He worked various jobs, then after a divorce remarried his now spouse of 38 years, Cheryl Early in 1977. They welcomed their son, Kenneth Wayne, in 1978. Last, but not least, Stacy Lynn arrived in 1982. The family then moved to Central Texas in 1985.
He enjoyed his work as an electrician for Bastrop ISD for over 20 years before his retirement in 2007. Since retirement Bob has enjoyed visiting with his many friends and family, but his favorite title has been Pawpo. He has four grandchildren that he adored and they were the apple of his eye.
Family members and friends often comment on the memory of Bob as a quick wit in conversation with his joking nature and great sense of humor. Cheryl recalls those blue eyes, amazing smile with those handsome boyish dimples capturing her heart from the start.
Proceeding him in death was his father, Weldon Gilmore. He is survived by his mother, Hazel Gilmore, of Channelview; sister, Cynthia and husband Gary Buck, of Pasadena; uncle, Carl Wayne Gilmore, of Elgin; wife, Cheryl Gilmore, of Smithville; daughter, Brandi Gilmore, of Pasadena; son, Kenneth and wife Larisa Gilmore, of the Woodlands; daughter, Stacy and husband Bradley Wilhelm, of Rosanky.There are also four grandchildren: Ashlyn and Garrett Wilhelm , Ethan and Emma Gilmore.
